Market Research Future has published a Half-Cooked Research Report on the Global Benzyl Chloride Market.

Market Synopsis:
According to the MRFR analysis, the Global Benzyl Chloride Market is projected to reach a market value of over USD 210 Million by the end of 2027 at a CAGR of over 4%.

Benzyl chloride is an intermediate industrial chemical that is widely used in the production process of a variety of chemical compounds such as dyes and paints, pharmaceuticals, perfumes, and flavoring products. The primary purpose of benzyl chloride is used to add benzyl functionality to different molecules to change their chemical properties.

The prominent factors favoring the growth of the global market is the increasing demand for the end-use products in the paints & coatings and pharmaceutical industries. As per one of the latest reports published by the Global Pharmaceutical Associations, the global market for pharmaceuticals is expected to reach USD 1.3 trillion by 2020 end. However, the acute (short-term) effects of benzyl chloride from inhalation and exposure to high concentrations causing health hazards are expected to hamper the market growth.

By Application

Production of Benzyl Alcohol: Benzyl alcohol is a versatile co-solvent, which is used in a wide range of curing agent formulations for epoxy resins used in coatings, adhesives, and flooring systems. Moreover, in paint stripping applications such as industrial paint stripping (primarily in formulations used for aircraft) and in architectural and do-it-yourself paint stripping, benzyl alcohol is used as an environmental-friendly substitute for methylene chloride. Benzyl alcohol is also used as a raw material while manufacturing various esters, which are used in personal care products such as soap and perfume.

The segment held the largest share, accounting for over 50% of the market in 2019.

Production of Benzyl Quaternary Ammonium Compounds: The quaternary ammonium compounds produced using benzyl chloride are used to produce biocides, oil and gas applications, personal care products, bactericides/preservative in hair care products, and as surfactants in architectural paints, machine dishwashing detergents, and coatings for marine yachts and industrial steel.

This segment held a market share of over 18% of the market in 2019.

Production of Benzyl Cyanide: This segment covers the use of benzyl chloride in the production of benzyl cyanide, which is used as a solvent and as a starting material in the synthesis of antibiotics, fungicides, fragrances (phenethyl alcohol), and other pharmaceuticals. Moreover, it is also used in penicillin precursors.

Others: The others segment includes the production of phthalates, benzyl esters, benzyl magnesium compounds, benzyl lithium compounds, and biocides.

By End-Use Industry

Paints & Coatings: The automotive segment held the largest share of the market with more than 50% in 2019, owing to the surging construction industry across the globe, particularly in the developing economies. The benzyl alcohol produced using benzyl chloride is widely used as a solvent in paint formulations and as paint strippers. Benzyl alcohol is used as a coalescing agent as it has a good performance in dissolving hydrophobic amines in water-based systems and acts as a viscosity-reducing agent in some coating systems.

Pharmaceutical: The pharmaceutical industry is the other major end-use industry consuming products produced using benzyl chloride. Benzyl alcohol is used as a preservative, in emulsions and ointments and insect-bite lotions. In addition, pharmaceutical grade benzyl alcohol is used as a bacteriostatic and as a local anesthetic. Benzyl cyanide is used in the production of phenobarbital, methylphenidate, and other amphetamines as well as in organic synthesis in other pharmaceutical applications.

Personal Care: The personal care segment covers the products manufactured using benzyl chloride and further used in the formulation of personal care products. Benzyl alcohol is used as a raw material in the manufacture of its various esters, which are used in the perfume, soap, and flavor industries. In addition, it is applicable in skincare products such as eye makeup and cleansers. Based on the high purity and stable odor profile, benzyl alcohol is used for producing fragrances and in cosmetics and hair care applications.

Agrochemicals: This segment includes the use of benzyl chloride in the production of germicides, herbicides, and other agrochemicals.

Others: The others segment covers the applications of benzyl chloride in the food, textile, and oil & gas industries.

By Region

North America: The growth of the pharmaceutical and oil & gas industries is the primary driver for regional market growth.

Europe: Western European countries, including Germany, France, and Spain, are the major contributors to the regional market growth. The established pharmaceutical industry is expected to support regional market growth during the forecast period.

Asia-Pacific: Asia-Pacific is the largest and fastest-growing regional market for benzyl chloride, with China and India being the leading country-level markets.

Latin America: A developing personal care industry and booming construction sector are likely to fuel the demand for benzyl chloride in Latin America in the coming years.

Middle East & Africa: The high growth potential of the paints & coatings industry and the expanding construction sector in the GCC countries may propel the regional market growth during the forecast period.
