After Epic entered the Battle Royale

In retrospect, this was always going to happen. I wrote about this at the time, but Maple Story's main problem was that its allure was all concept maplestory2 mesos whilst execution lagged. The concept of 100 players falling on a major map to scavenge weapons and battle out it struck a chord with the gaming public, and the game climbed despite being in a somewhat rugged version of access. Bluehole was a small developer punching above its weight, but that meant it was constantly exposed to a heavyweight that chose to enter the ring. Which is exactly what occurred when Epic chose a swing.


As a counterpoint, we will look at Overwatch. Overwatch didn't devise the class-based shooter, just like Maple Story did not invent Battle Royale. But it popularized it at this moment and because of this it's observed a wave of imitators like Maple Story. Not one of these imitators have been able to match Overwatch's success, but mostly because heavyweight does not actually begin to describe a developer like Blizzard. It had the technical stability, marketing and development muscle to keep things clean. Other developers could do nicely imitating its success, but taking it down was just going to be near impossible.


After Epic entered the Battle Royale globe, it failed with access to the type of drive Blizzard utilizes to maintain Overwatch on top, in addition to this type of technical expertise that just the company that makes Unreal Engine can really claim. Most significant in this is equilibrium: bugs, hiccups and cheaters were something which Maple Story players dwelt because of that essential appeal. As it turned out, though, a programmer like Epic was effective at making a far more stable solution, and finally that's just a better way to perform. With this out of the way, it began to crank out content in the kind of map refreshes, limited time manners, cosmetics and weapons: Maple Story couldn't expect to keep up.


It helped that Fortnite was better geared towards wide appeal. The sport had a lot of this tension that created Maple Story so participating but it was quicker, simpler and seemed a lot more favorable, something which's no doubt go to this page been important in its appeal to kids and their parents.
