There's lots of reasons to watch Riverdale: the mystery, the ~romance~, and, of course, the fashion. We don't blame you if Veronica Lodge has inspired you to wear pearls with literally every outfit, or if Cheryl Blossom has motivated you to dye your hair red and wear stilettos every day of the week. It just so happens that there's a lot more than meets the eye when it comes to the style of the Riverdale characters — and actress Madelaine Petsch is spilling all the secrets.

In an interview with Glamour, Madelaine revealed that there are major themes and clues behind the colors that she wears on the show. She explained that she was the only character allowed to wear red — a shade that she sported quite often, along with white and black. "Last season I feel like Cheryl was almost forced to be ‘put together’ all the time," Madelaine said, "and when she had a hair out of place — or she was wearing white, instead of red — you knew something was about to go down."

But we'll be seeing Cheryl in a whole new color this season: blue. According to Madelaine, the introduction of the hue symbolizes the fact that Cheryl will be "slowly taking reins out of her mom’s hands." But not to worry; she'll still be rocking fire-engine red in more subtle ways.

Madelaine also explained that although she loves Cheryl's wardrobe, she actually has another favorite character whose clothes she admires even more: Toni Topaz, played by Vanessa Morgan. "I'll go to her fittings sometimes just so I can pick pieces out and be like, 'I'm going to go buy that later!'" the actress said. As for the items in Cheryl's closet that Madelaine wishes she could own IRL? A pair of Christian Louboutin pumps and Valentino Rockstud ankle-strap heels are the pieces that have caught her eye — and we definitely don't blame her. It's pretty clear that Cheryl Blossom is one of the best-dressed fictional characters around, no matter what color — or shoes — she's wearing.
