Migos Reveal the Inspiration Behind Their Epic Grammys Looks

“Vogue is most definitely Migos-approved,” quips Quavo, as we join rap’s reigning kings of bling in their hotel suite (via private elevator, no less) for their fitting for the 2018 Grammys, undoubtedly music’s biggest night out.

Rappers Quavo, Offset, and Takeoff are known for letting their trademark jewels do the talking (take their black Versace 2017 Met Gala looks as the perfect example of their ostentatious style). But for a new year and just off their newly released Culture II, the trio are upping their style ante: taking cues from a musical legend with the same love of blingy sartorial red carpet looks (Michael Jackson) and even going so far as to coin their own term for their signature ice-heavy look (“drippy”).

“Drip means swag, but it’s our lingo. We don’t want to be saying what everyone else is saying,” Takeoff explains, as he peruses extensive racks filled with the likes of Fendi, Dsquared2, Balmain, and, of course, Versace, which the group’s stylist Zoe Costello had gathered for Grammys weekend. All three decide on a variation of the same black Dior Homme suit with running tape on the legs stamped with “Rue de Marignan” (the address of the house’s Paris HQ) for their performance at Clive Davis’s pre-Grammy bash.

As for the big night? (They were nominated in the Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Album categories.) They wore their love of all things gold on their sleeves . . . literally. “Michael was the greatest, a fashion icon, and he was a ladies man,” Quavo explains, while gazing at Jackson’s winning Grammy look from ’83, which is taped to a nearby wall.
