The wife of Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin has issued a statement.

Louise Linton, wife of Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, has issued an apology after receiving much backlash over a now-deleted Instagram post in which she flaunted her designer wardrobe and pricey labels.

"I apologize for my post on social media yesterday as well as my response. It was inappropriate and highly insensitive," Linton said in a statement to CNN.

The Scottish actress, who married the 54-year-old Mnuchin this summer, caused online outrage Monday after she posted an editorial-like image of herself traveling on a government plane with her husband to Kentucky and wearing a number of high-end fashion labels. "Great #daytrip to #Kentucky," she captioned, adding hashtags for each designer piece of her head-to-toe cream outfit, including her Roland Mouret pants, Tom Ford sunglasses, Hermes scarf and Valentino rock stud heels.

When a follower left a critical comment of the flashy post, writing "Glad we could pay for your little getaway. #deplorable," Linton snarkily responded by calling the commenter "adorably out of touch" before proceeding to go on a lengthy and defensive tirade about the amount of money she and her husband pay in tax dollars.

"Did you think this was a personal trip?!," she shot back, tagging user @jennimiller29, who goes by Jenni M on social media. "Adorable! Do you think the US govt paid for our honeymoon or personal travel?! Lololol. Have you given more to the economy than me or my husband? Either as an individual earner in taxes OR in self sacrifice to your country?"

She continued, "Pretty sure the amount we sacrifice per year is a lot more than you'd be willing to sacrifice if the choice was yours... Your kids look cute. Your life looks cute. I know you're mad but deep down you're really nice and so am I. Sending me passive aggressive Instagram comments isn't going to make life feel better." She concluded the comment by suggesting Jenni leave "nice" comments and that she "chill out" with the latest "fab" Game of Thronesepisode.

Shortly after the comment was posted and Linton began receiving blowback, her account was turned to private. According to those who follow her, the post itself has since been deleted.
